This Psalm might belong to the same period as Psalm 3 when David had to flee from Absalom his son.
I. David asks to be heard by God (verses 1-2)
A. David prays that God will hear his prayer. (4.1).
B. Invigorate prayer by sound doctrine and experience. (2 Samuel 15.3; Psalm 103.10-12). I
C. Maintain a charitable disposition of soul (4.2; Proverbs 8.1, 33-36; Matthew 11.28-30).
II. David's assurance of being heard
A. Such assurance must be evident, even in oppressed believers, that others be persuaded that God will hear their prayers. (4.3)
B. Others must take note & respond accordingly. (4.4). (i) 'Stand in awe (Deuteronomy 4.9-12); (ii) Sin not. (iii) Self-instruct. (iv) 'Be still'' (4.4; Psalm 46.8-10).
III. David's advice to others
A. Maintain godliness and faith in God. (4.5; 1 Peter 2.5).
