Church as Family I really appreciated Paster Holroyd's sermon and I get the concept of community. However, that being said, and semantic nitpicking aside, are we, as Christians, rather to be called Family, than community? What I mean is, the word community, in relation to the Church, is a post-modern ideal. Are we not rather to be called brethren? Does God's Word not say we are brothers and sisters in Christ? A community is defined as a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common. Are we not much more than this. I think of a community as a group of people living either in the same town, or neighborhood, maybe sharing a barbecue every once in a while. While a family is related by blood...in our case, the blood of Christ. I think it would be a much better sermon to preach on the Church as a FAMILY... just a friendly suggestion. |
