Paul opens this letter with a gracious and clear declaration of his credentials. In the opening verse, the apostle establishes the matter of authority: he is a man under authority (an authorized spokesman, a commissioned representative, of the risen and reigning Christ Jesus), and therefore a man of authority.
From this, we note: that, though the apostolic office may have ceased, apostolic authority has not evaporated; the gratitude we ought to show Christ for the gifts given in days past and present to his church, for our preservation in truth and from error; Paul's genuine 'objectivity' as a man who knows the truth; that deviation from the apostolic truth is departure from Christ; and, that rejection of the apostolic truth is a rejection of Christ himself.

Excellent message! Col ch 1:1A
Pastor Jeremy Walker gives a clarion call to obedience to the words and commands of the apostles of Jesus Christ as contained in the Holy Scriptures. Pastor Walker expounds the text very plainly giving both penetrating insights and searching applications. May this sermon be used mightily in our day when so many are not willing to listen to those commissioned directly by Christ to instruct His church. I heartily recommend this sermon for all to hear.
