Last week we looked at some of the first features of the city, the New Jerusalem, the Bride of Christ, the Wife of the Lamb. Transparent walls, three on each side, reminders of the 12 tribes and the 12 apostles, etc.
Today we move on into the glory of God being seen in all His undiminished, or shaded, beauty. We'll see the stones which are transparent along with the gold that is see-through. We'll see gospel reminders in the formation of the 12 gates, each from a single pearl.
Everything about the city will remind us of some aspect of the grace of God so that throughout all history, we will perform what He sought throughout the Bible's history; that is, that our joy will be made complete as we see the outworking of His judgments and His grace through reminders He has built into the city.
Just as our enjoyment of a favorite sports team is made more full with each good play, each win, each playoff win, and especially with each championship, so also will our joy be made full when we fully recognize God's display of grace and holiness throughout all of history, and His victory is complete and final. |
