A Godless Attack on Shechem Genesis 34:1-31 we live in a wicked society, a world of immorality, violence, and lawlessness. Some persons will argue with this statement, saying there is too much good and beauty in the world to characterize it as a wicked world. And they are right, but only up to a certain point: our earth is filled with beauty and goodness, but it is also filled with wickedness; and down through history, the wickedness has always overrun the beauty and goodness. The gospel tells us of a Son who came into the world, not to bring revenge for the wrongs done to Him and His Father, but rather to suffer the punishment Himself for those who had wronged and abused Him.Even as He hung on the cross, nailed there by the hands of sinful men like you and me, His prayer was not, "Father, destroy them for what they do," but rather, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do."Knowing a God like that ought to compel us to never live a single day without looking to Him for grace and guidance.
