Repentance and wrath are rarely heard from preachers in our day, but these themes were at the heart of John the Baptist’s message as he sought to prepare the Israelites for the appearance of their Messiah.
Was John’s message exceptional because of his unique ministry? Or are we neglecting important (but unpopular) themes in our proclamation. John also called upon his hearer to express their faith through baptism and by performing works which are the fruit of true repentance. Some evangelicals might accuse John as being harsh and moralistic.
With God’s help, I hope to proclaim God’s message through John to you. Please pray that our hearts will be receptive and humble and that the Lord will give repentance and faith to those among us who have not yet turned to Him.
