Do You Believe? - Message 10 - Faith for Today. As we have examined the faith of the faithful listed in Hebrews 11 we have studied Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. Now the writer to Hebrew Christians continues to reflect on the heritage of these faithful by moving on to Moses and his parents, Amram and Jochebed. When Moses was born there had been a decree by Pharaoh that all boys born to the Hebrew slaves should be killed. In these circumstances Jochebed gave birth and she hid her baby boy for 3 months. The Bible says he was “beautiful” and the term means literally that he found “favor,” a term translated other places as having found “grace.” Moses found grace indeed as God had a plan for him and His people. Later, Moses' parents made a small ark to hide him in along the banks of the river. Of course, as we know the story, Pharaoh's daughter found the basket, adopted Moses, and raised him in the royal court. But as Moses grew we see that not only did his parents have faith, but so did he! He ultimately made the choice to leave the luxury behind and suffer with his people as a slave, enduring the reproaches of Christ, looking to the reward from God (salvation through the promised Messiah). Do we have faith to trust God day by day, even in matters of life and death, even in the lives of our children? Moses shows us why God is trustworthy. |
