In 1643 the governments and national churches of England, Scotland and Ireland covenanted together to follow the Lord in the Solemn League and Covenant.
A wicked king later declared that document to be unlawful and persecuted the conscientious Christians who continued to uphold their covenanted obligations. Thousands of them were exterminated. They were called 'Covenanters'.
When the persecution ended, a remnant of Covenanters refused to accept the new governmental and ecclesiastical situation known as the Revolution Settlement because it did not acknowledge the Solemn League and Covenant. This remnant founded the Reformed Presbyterian Church.
In The Anglosphere's Broken Covenant, political scientist Michael Wagner explains the background and history of the Solemn League and Covenant. He then argues that the obligation to keep it is still in effect for the original covenanting nations as well as the nations that descended from them, in particular the British settler nations of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the USA.
If this is true, the implications for these nations are significant.
The Anglosphere's Broken Covenant is available on Amazon.com for Kindle and as a softcover book from Gospel Covenant Publications (gcpublications.com).
