What a question ! Can we honestly answer it now in our hearts ?
Rev Elliott in his opening remarks reminds us that it is a pertinent, personal & provocative question.
To help the listener form their opinion and come to a conclusion, we are then brought to consider an incident in the life of the Lord Jesus Christ-that of His calming of the storm, as found in Matthew 8: 23-27-and we are faced with the questions:
1) WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST
IN HIS HUMANITY
The Lord Jesus was asleep on the boat. He was fully God. But yet He was fully man. God does not sleep - but God manifest in the flesh does!
The Lord Jesus knows the situations we are going through. Having walked this earth as a man (while still God) He can enter into what we are facing in life.
2) WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST
IN HIS SERENITY
What more serene scene could you picture? The Creator of the world, lying asleep on a fishing boat in the midst of a great storm!
If we repent of our sin, call on the Lord to save us, and as it were, bring Him on board the vessel of our lives, He will give us serentity in the storm!
3) WHAT THINK YE OF CHRIST
IN HIS ABILITY
By repenting of our sin, and making the Saviour Lord of our lives, He can not only give us serenity in the storm, but He can speak the word of calm to the circumstances around us.
What ability the Lord has ! What do you think of Him ? Is He:
Your hope from beginning to end, Your portion, your Lord, and your All ?
