This passage may well be the most familiar Old Testament account, to both believers and unbelievers. The David and Goliath battle has become emblematic for an underdog taking down a big bad enemy, against all odds. But this passage is not about how to become a David. We are actually Israel in this story; shaking in fear and helpless. Rather, the entire narrative is about a helpless people being rescued by God's power, through His anointed. For Israel the savior was David. But he was only a type of the Messiah to come. In Christ we have the better David who rescued us from Satan's power.
