Luke gives two contrasting accounts with respect to the life of the Jerusalem church. The church devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and demonstrated generosity toward one another with Barnabas being an example. But Ananias and Sapphira devised a wicked plan and lied about the amount they gave in order to keep some of their money and to look good in front of the church. But God knows their wicked plan and, in a judgment miracle, causes Ananias and Sapphira to breath their last.
