This is a study of Paul's epistle to the Thessalonians, which was written shortly after his first epistle to them. There was false doctrine that was circulating in the church at Thessalonica, that led Paul to write so quickly after his first letter to them. As Paul praises them for two things, we see what is of primary importance in the local church. First there is to be growth, not primarily in numbers but in the faith of those attending. We are to grow in our faith in God. Every day brings tests of how deep our faith or trust is in Him and in His perfect love and plan for us. Secondly, we are to always be advancing in our love for each other. So that our goal is to be continually more loving of the brethren each day. Even though we are already loving the brethren to some degree, we are to excel still more.
