Los capítulos 3 y 4 de Génesis son extremadamente trágicos. Ambos muestran el efecto destructivo del pecado tanto en la relación del hombre con Dios (cap. 3), como la del hombre con el hombre (cap. 4).
La historia de Caín, Abel y Set en el capítulo 4 nos muestra como los hombres comenzaron a buscar a Dios -- uno de forma caprichosa y carnal (Caín) y el otro de forma espiritual (Abel). Caín, ilustra a los que buscan a Dios falsamente y sin arrepentimiento y a pesar de eso prosperan terrenalmente. Abel ilustra a los verdaderos adoradores que sufren por su fidelidad. Set es la evidencia de que Dios siempre tendrá un pueblo fiel en medio de la impiedad. Dios lo envía para sustituir a Abel y de él levanta a Enós y a una nueva generación de gente piadosa que comenzó a invocar Su Nombre en espíritu y en verdad.
Este es un llamado para que busquemos a Dios espiritualmente, en fe y conforme a Su Palabra, no caprichosa y falsamente, movidos por influencias carnales y mundanas.
