I. The Sanctification of others II. The Sanctification of Himself III. The Sanctification through the Truth
The ultimate purpose of the Cross is the sanctification of others. This sanctification is a benefit. Our holiness is a blessing to be enjoyed. Christians must live a holy life. A life separated unto Christ apart from the world and apart from our filthy sin. Christians must devote the sabbath day to glorifying God.
Christ was active on the cross sanctifying in two ways. First as consecrating Himself to the father and doing the will of the Father. Secondly by atoning for the filth and guilt of our sin at the cross.
The truth is the Word of God as scripture is proclaimed in the preaching. The truth sanctifies.
