Christians, by their very nature, live by radically different values and priorities than the world we desire to reach with the gospel. Perhaps nowhere is the distinction more noticeable than in God’s roles for men and women. God calls men to spiritual leadership, and the church’s public worship is to reflect this design. God calls women to a beauty that radiates from the inside out, their lives adorned with godliness and good works. “In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy. And I want women to be modest in their appearance.” (1 Timothy 2:8-9, NLT). Our sinful impulses tend to war against God’s design. And those impulses find ready support in the world we live in, which constantly rejects God’s design for men and women.
