When we believe that Jesus Christ went to heaven for our benefit this world is no longer a scary or depressing place, Jesus went to heaven: 1. As our advocate 2. to change the focus of our live. 3. to guarantee our glorification.
Introduction: 1. Why did some old ships have two compasses instead of just one? In what sense is the earthly compass different from the heavenly one? Point 1: 2. Abraham and Moses interceded for other people in the Old Testament: what makes the intercession of Jesus different? 3. Does it matter if Jesus Christ intercedes for us from his throne in heaven or from a place on this earth? 4. If I am struggling with my faith or living in sin, will God still hear my prayers? Why or why not? And then what can I do? Point 2: 5. What pledge did Jesus give to us when He went to heaven? 6. If we cannot find that pledge in our own personal lives, what we can do to get it? 7. Point 3: 8. Lord’s Day 18 speaks of a pledge and a counter-pledge. Can we compare this to an exchange of wedding rings? [We EXCHANGE wedding rings, but Christ gives us both the pledge as well as the counter-pledge.]
