Not only is life very short, but our lives can also seem to be very ordinary. We spend 14 years of our lives in school and then perhaps another 4 years or more in college. We work for another 40-50 years, hopefully having enough to retire and live somewhat comfortably for the rest of our lives. And maybe in this time we are blessed to raise a family and no doubt enjoy many other blessings, but our lives are generally speaking fairly ordinary. And yet if that it is all that we consider, then we have missed much of what Scripture teaches. For Scripture presents the Christian life, never as just an ordinary life. In the midst of the ordinary we are called to live a life of worship, obedience, love to others, and service to our Lord and Savior. Never must we think simply in terms of life as a boring routine. Rather we must be constantly challenged in terms of thinking of the bigger picture of why God has placed us where we are at this time.
This I believe is part of what we see from Abram's life in chapter 13, which shows us Abram's worship and witness, his love for others, his obedience, and his waiting on the promises of God. We will look at this story in four sections: 1. God Is Faithful to Restore Us, v. 1-4 2. God's Promise Means We Can Seek Peace, v. 5-9 3. God Does Not Call Us to Ease But to Follow Him, v. 10-13 4. God's Promises Are Our Only Hope, v. 14-18
