We are continuing a brief series of topical messages titled “How People Change”.
We have been asking the question: “Why don’t people change and become more and more like Jesus and put off sin?” We have examined a number aspects, such as: seeing life as worship, turning from the idols of the heart, living by the Word of God, learning to see everything as an opportunity to lay down our false ways of thinking and false desires and to worship Jesus Christ. These things happen in community and relationships, that is, change is a community project. So, one of the reasons we don’t change as Christians is that we are not involved in redemptive relationships. These are more than just enjoying each other’s company, they are about an intentional focus on helping each other become more and more like Jesus.
Ephesians chapter 4 continues our examination of sanctification we began in Colossians 3 and Romans 12. In Ephesians 4:1-16, the Apostle Paul turns a corner from theological instruction to practical application and the first concept he addresses is the necessity of relationships in the Body of Christ. We need to view ourselves and others rightly, that is, how God sees us, if we are going to make progress in building unity and growing to be more like Christ. We should think more highly of the work of God in us and other believers.
