The thesis of John's Gospel is Jesus is God in human flesh and he takes it on in full force throughout the book. While the other three writers spend the majority of their time chronicling the ministry of Jesus, John starts his book by saying that the Word is God and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us (John 1.1-14) and takes the balance of his writing to show Jesus was in fact God in the flesh. Now in chapter 10, John writes about Jesus' parable of the Good Shepherd. The idea that God is our shepherd is a primary tenet of Judaism, and Jesus took that tenet and related it squarely toward Himself by saying I am the Door of the sheepfold and I am the good shepherd who takes ownership of his sheep.
