In this lengthy paragraph (1:5-2:18) of the epistle the apostle picks up on a previous thought from Vs. 1-2. He identifies one of those inferior methods of revelation (i.e. angels) and shows how Jesus is superior (1:5-14). If the word that the angels brought was sure, then the reader must pay close attention now to the clarity of the Word that Jesus, the Superior One, brings (2:1-4). The apostle then anticipates the question; if Jesus Christ is superior to the angels, how do you explain his humanity? The apostle has a simple answer (2:5-18).
Although angels have a very significant role in God’s economy, they are not fundamental to the gospel. Angels are “made” as mere “ministers” (1:7, 14) of the gospel. Christ is the gospel.
The Ministry of Angels is Consequential (1:14 “Sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation”).
The Ministry of Angels is Incidental (1:5, 13 “For unto which of the angels said he …”).
The Ministry of Christ is Fundamental (13:b “But unto the Son he saith …”).
