How could Abraham take God at His Word to the point that he was willing to kill his own son – the fulfillment of God's promise after a lifetime of waiting? Is this faith, or madness? First because Abraham knew the voice of God. Secondly, because Abraham trusted God, based on God's character. God made promises to Abraham, passed on to his son Isaac, and to his grandson Jacob, and to his great-grandson Joseph. These verses show us how each generation believed God's promises and lived and died accordingly. The challenge for us is to test our faith and see if we are taking God at His Word, being willing to hear and obey Him, even if that obedience means taking a risk.
