As Protestants we pride themselves on our belief in the priesthood of every believer. But apart from the privileges of priesthood, what are our responsibilities as priests? This message identifies three key responsibilities of every believer in his capacity as a priest before God.
First, as the Levite tribe was responsible to bear the Ark of the Covenant (the covenant representing God's self-revelation), so we as a priestly people are to carry His Word to the world. The ark contained three items that suggest the content of our message to the world: (1) the 10 Commandments, representing God's righteous character. (2) Aaron's rod that budded, representing God's judgment of sin. (3) A pot of manna, representing God's provision for sin in the person of Christ - the true manna from Heaven.
Secondly, as priests we are to maintain our focus on our relationship with the Lord. Our ministry to others flows from our relationship with Him. This means spending consistent quality time in His presence, and also recognizing our accountability to Him.
Third, we who have been so blessed as priests of the living God now have the obligation, in turn, to be a blessing to others. This means being a blessing even to those who hate us and persecute us.
