In our passage today, 1 Kings 10:1-13, which speaks of the glory of the earthly king, Solomon, we can learn more about God’s plan in working through Solomon and his wisdom and wealth, and also look forward to the One who is greater than Solomon.
Through the account of the visit of the Queen of Sheba with Solomon, we will look at the splendor of the king, and his greatness, as it is reflected in Solomon’s wisdom, his greatness, his wealth, and his judgment. We will also look forward to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, who said, “The queen of the South [that is, Sheba] will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.” The wealth and wisdom of Solomon cannot compare to the wealth and wisdom we find in our God and our Savior Jesus Christ, who, “though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.” |
