It is a dangerous and rebellious estate that one resides in if he or she refuses to confess their sin and seek forgiveness in Christ. It is an estate, a condition, a conviction that will, if unchanged, lead to certain and eternal death and destruction. Yet it is a common estate. Many today are convinced that they are not bad people . . . that they try to do good. That they have done nothing worthy of eternal punishment, and as a result, have no real, heartfelt, sincere need of confession and thus of forgiveness. These are not blessed. But the person whom God lays His hand upon . . . His weighty hand, causing them to "see" and acknowledge their sin, is blessed. Especially as this one is chastised in their silence . . . this one is blessed. This psalm of David teaches us that every child of God is blessed by His weighty hand of chastisement, by receiving assurance of forgiveness, and in being led to a more complete faith in Christ.
