1 Corinthians is the second letter that the apostle Paul writes to the church at Corinth to address issues of both doctrine and practice. As Paul begins his letter, he reminds them of their positional holiness in Jesus Christ being "called saints." He reminds them that they are not different than any other saints in every other place, as they all "call upon the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is both their Lord and ours." Interestingly, Paul emphasizes their holiness in his greeting, then proceeds throughout the entire book to correct them for their lack of holiness in worship and Christian living. As Paul points out in verse 2, today's believers are no different than the Corinthians, and the character of our lives should reflect the holiness to which we have been called as saints in Christ.
