Continuing the series of problems people face, doubts and lack of assurance is examined.
Rev. Ken Elliot looks at two points on doubts and how they can be dealt with.
1. THE DISCERNING OF OUR DOUBTS. i) The doubts that unsaved people have. Sinners will believe they are too vile, too self righteous, too selfish, too late, made too many empty professions or rejected the Holy Spirit too often. This makes them doubt if there is forgiveness, mercy and salvation.
ii) The doubts that saved people have. Believers, worry about the words they used, their feelings or the way they came to Christ. They may be reminded of a terrible sin from the past or feel the guilt of a present sin. This can cause them to doubt their salvation.
2. THE DEALING WITH OUR DOUBTS i) The role of the bible The bible tells us the vilest sinner can be washed whiter than the snow and that the self righteous Saul obtained mercy. It also tells us that Enoch was saved at 65 and the thief was saved just hours before his death.
ii) Believing what the bible says The Lord is willing to forgive you many times and if you come He will in no wise cast out. The only way to come to Christ is to repent and believe and leave the past under the blood.
