By way of introduction, the vision Daniel had had was of an angel (as described inv5,6). And this angel had come to communicate to Daniel the explanation of what was on Daniel's heart beginning back in v1. Daniel was so immersed in this thing that was troubling him that for 3 weeks (v2) he mourned, fasted, meditated, and prayed for an answer. He knew he had something that God had placed for him here but he didn't know what to do with it. Or how should he respond to it? A lot of times in our own lives we see the answer but for some reason we can't comprehend it. May be it is fear of the unknown, or fear of the known. Perhaps we simply question, why me and not someone else? We could feel that's it's just too good to be true. Now maybe some of those reasons are why the men with Daniel weren't ready or able to receive the answer. You see when opportunity strikes the seeker needs to be serious about his service. Though he may feel singled out if he is sincere in his duty the Lord’s strength will flow enabling him to endure when the struggle comes. As the opportunity strikes we must take advantage of it.
