Continuing the series on church government, the Eldership or the Kirk Session is examined.
Rev. Ken Elliot in part one of the Eldership looks at the office of the Eldership.
1. THE OFFICE OF THE ELDERSHIP.
i) The antiquity of it a) Elders can be found right back when the children of Israel were in Egypt (Gen50:7). b) The early church, had ordained elders chosen by God through its members (Act14:23).
ii) The notability of it. a) A bishop, an overseer, and an elder are all the same office. b) It is a good work, as it is forwarding the cause of Jesus Christ.
iii) The duties of it. a) Feed the flock from the Word of God. b) Protect and look out for the flock. c) Govern or rule the flock.
iv) The desirability of it a) There is nothing wrong in desiring the office of an elder as it is a good work. b) Be prepared there is much work, hard decisions and a stand to be taken.
