Throughout the centuries God has raised up champions of the faith, great leaders, and faithful servants in His timing and for the preservation of His Word and people. In this session, Jon will talk about two of the key Reformers, Jan Hus and Martin Luther. During the time of Hus, the Great Schism in the Roman Catholic church had resulted in there being 3 competing popes. With this backdrop, Hus was championing the authority of Scripture over that of the earthly popes. During the Council of Constance in 1414, the issue of the 3 popes was resolved and then the council called Hus to appear and recant his writings. He refused and was burned at the stake.
Roughly 100 years later, a young monk named Martin Luther would be in a similar position.
