The 1859 revival was not without its critics and one of the things that drew particular criticism was the strange events that surrounded it. Prostrations took place and strange cases of people being struck deaf and dumb. The question we ask is are such things mentioned or warranted by Scripture. We need to face this question in the light of the fact that Charismatics often justify the unusual events in their meetings as similar to the unusual events that happen in revival.
