For the last 150 years new version after new version of the Bible has been brought out, each one claiming to use the best and most recently discovered manuscript text. How can we know we have the complete, final, pure Word of God? What will decide for us? Read Westminster Confession of Faith chapter 1, paragraph 8. God has providentially preserved His Word throughout all ages. 1. The Preservation of God's Word promised. 2. The existence of God's Word. 3. The identification of God's Word. Application: 1. Our adherence to the A.V. is not on the basis of psychology, sentimentality, or tradition, but on the basis of the doctrine of preservation. 2. Those who use modern versions cannot in all honesty claim they have the pure Word of God. 3. Every true Christian will fight against the introduction of errors into the text of the Word of God. 4. Does it matter? Yes, because the doctrine of God is affected, and the doctrine of preservation and identification of the Word of God is affected.
