When we are told not to set our affections on the things of this world, but on things above, too many people interpret this to mean that God is telling us that our lives in these bodies and the activities of this life are irrelevant to His Kingdom work. Paul longed for the glory that awaited him when he died, yet he points out the significance of God's Kingdom work done in and through these temporal bodies and in this temporal world. All of this is vital and important in God's outworking Kingdom plan and thus we are called to accountability--we will give account to the Lord for it. To be truly spiritual we must not try to bypass this earthy, dusty existence and all the things that make up this life. We must not try to run away from responsibilities, work or self-sacrifice, rather, we are to embrace the many opportunities the Lord gives to us to invest in the Kingdom through such activities, knowing that we will give an account for everything done in the body, whether good or bad.
