All true believers are subject to the Father's discipline, which Paul addresses in Hebrews 12. Trials test the saints. False believers will fall away; true believers will be corrected, strengthened, and resolved to persevere. Trials test us to know what is in us (Deut. 8:2). Job is an example of this testing. At first, he remained strong but in his own strength. He began to cave as the trial ground on (Job 19:8-10). Job, however, soon learned that "the testing of your faith produces endurance" (James 1:3, 4). God graciously came to him, and Job repented of his questioning God. He discovered that "He disciplines us for our own good, that we may share His holiness" (Heb. 12:10).
