1. Be Submissive & Obedient towards Civil Authorities “1 Put them in mind… to be subject to principalities [rulers] and powers [i.e. authority], to obey magistrates [government]” 5th commandment; cf. Rom 13:1-7. What about civil authorities which we cannot fully agree with? (1 Pet 2:13-14; 1 Tim 3:1-2; Acts 5:29; 1 Pet 2:15)
2. Be Ready to Every Good Work …1b to be ready to every good work. What are good works? What good work have I done or will do? (1 Cor 15:58).
3. Be Kind in Speech, Slander Not 2a To speak evil of no man… Are we to say only positive things about other? (cf. Prov 6:16-19). What attitude should we adopt seeing we can easily fail? (cf. Prov 10:19; Jas 1:26; Prov 17:9)
4. Be Not Quarrelsome …2b to be no brawlers. No-fighter. Not contentious. Is there a difference between being opinionated and having an opinion?
5. Be Gentle & Meek to All … 2c [to be] gentle, showing all meekness unto all men. Gentle: outward acts. Meekness: inward disposition. Imitate Christ (1 Peter 2:21-24).
