Christ was made a curse for us, that we might be redeemed from the curse. God's wrath was on Jesus in our place, as our substitute Lamb of God. His death for us forgives us of all our crimes against God, and so we are set free.
But we must not pass over the gigantic consequences for the Lord Jesus Himself. We have already described how His being made a curse for believers rescues us, but what did it do for Jesus?
What does Scripture tell us follows for Jesus for doing this great work for us?
Isaiah 53 describes in detail how Jesus was punished by God on the cross for our sins, and thereby we are justified.
Jesus was stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. It was all for our own sins that He suffered so. God laid on Jesus our iniquities. He is God's obedient and perfect Lamb, killed to save His disobedient sheep. He was put to death for our crimes, for He had none of His own. It pleased God to crush Jesus at Calvary, where He was put to great grief, and made an offering for our sin.
But then Isaiah discloses the enormous consequences for Christ: He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand!
Christ is raised up to life again, because He was made a curse for us! He sees the results of His sacrifice - all His people rescued, cleansed, and given everlasting life!
Jesus sees His loved ones whom He has justified by bearing their sins!
But further, God gives Christ a glorious kingdom and great spoils!
The consequences of Christ being made a curse for us, are that He is raised again, the blessing of God is upon His work, and He is given a kingdom and power and great treasure!
