In the book of Joshua we find out that Moses had died and God had appointed a new leader to the Israelites. The new leader's name was Joshua.
Joshua was used by God to lead the Jewish people out of the wilderness, across the Jordan River, into the Promised Land, the Land of Canaan.
Now the Land of Canaan was inhabited by the enemy. Canaan had Walled Cities and strongholds that had to be demolished.
Canaan was a land where they had battles to fight and in order to fight the battles they had to trust the Lord for the victory.
Now if you think about the Christian life we too have our battles.
Whilst ever the Christian is on earth there are battles to fight and strongholds of sin that must come tumbling down.
Every Christian is at war. We are at war with the World, the flesh and the Devil.
Eph 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
As you read Chapter 7, Israel's Army attacked the City of AI but the men of AI repelled the Israelites and about 36 men died.
When Israel's army lost the battle then fear struck the nation.
In this great crisis Joshua and the elders of Israel come before the Lord. Israel was defeated because there was sin in the camp.
There is a great lesson here for Churches and there is a great lesson here for individuals.
Sin brings defeat, sin brings destruction, sin brings devastation and ultimately sin brings forth death.
One Israelite soldier, a man called Achan contributed to the defeat of Israel at Ai.
Achan sinned against the Lord and His sin affected the whole nation.
