With much grace and mercy, God is building His kingdom through suffering, chastisement, and repentant prayer. In this psalm we see the great grace of God poured out upon His people as He continues to build them up for everlasting praise and worship. Having been seated upon the throne and his house established by the Lord his God, David writes of being delivered from the great depth of suffering at the hands of his enemies, to a great prosperity or ease in his house of cedar. But the psalmist wrongly perceives this blessing of God, and he brings himself low in sin. God then uses chastisement, turning away from David, to bring the inspired writer to repentant prayer and praise for the everlasting mercy and grace he received.
