We reach, as some of called the tenth plague, “the plague of plagues.” This plague is the one in which we finally reach the climax of God’s purpose in these plagues, which is setting the people of Israel free to go and worship God. This is the plague that so affects Pharaoh and those under him in Egypt, that they not only let the Israelites go, but will drive them out completely. This is the plague that brings to the forefront God’s own hand that will bring this plague about, as verse 1 says, “The LORD said to Moses, “Yet one plague more I will bring upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt. Afterward he will let you go from here. When he lets you go, he will drive you away completely.” It’ll be Yahweh, the LORD, who brings this plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt and His hand that delivers Israel! This is a plague of finality, one of judgement and death of all the firstborn from Pharaoh down to the slave girl and even of the cattle. Verse 6 says “There shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there has never been, nor ever will be again.” After looking at the death and judgement that was brought about in the tenth plague upon Pharaoh and Egypt, we will turn to look at death and judgement as it comes upon all people, first the unbeliever and then also on the believer. Death and judgment were incurred by the fall of our first parents Adam and Eve, into sin, which was spread to all mankind. All sin and therefore all die. Most people fear death, but try as they may, no one can put off that inevitable day of one’s death. One modern comic has said “I don’t fear death, but I just don’t want to be there when it happens!” But death is a fact of life that faces everyone.
