After Israel heard the voice of God, she was filled with terror, and asked that Moses be permitted to speak for God to Israel.
Moses promised that one day God would raise up a Prophet from amongst the people of Israel, and He would speak the very words that God placed in His mouth, and the people would listen to Him. Those who refused would be destroyed.
Israel would not listen to God's words from Moses, and rebelled and went after false prophets and false gods.
Scripture makes it clear that the Lord Jesus was that promised Prophet from God. He Himself claimed to be that Prophet, and declared repeatedly that He spoke whatever His Father gave Him to speak to the people. His words were not those of mere human thought.
The Apostle Peter also shows Christ was that Prophet, and warned the Jews of judgment should they refuse to hear the words of Jesus.
God Himself from Heaven confirmed the words of Christ to the Apostles at the Transfiguration when He commanded that we listen to whatever His Beloved Son says.
That divine word from above was a rebuke to Peter, who had rejected Jesus' words concerning His sacrifice and death at Calvary.
Christ made it very clear, that God had sent Him to declare salvation to every person who trusts in Him and in His offering for sin. Those are the very words of God on Christ's lips. To all those who hear and receive His Gospel words He gives eternal life!
The people could never obey the words of God from Moses, because they were the law that could not be kept and could never save.
But praise God, Jesus' words of life may be heard and obeyed unto everlasting Salvation!
