Having written of the Father's readiness to hear our prayers, and his longing to give to us the 'good gift' of the Holy Spirit, Luke presents us with a clear picture of the battle waging 'against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places' and among us here on earth (Eph 6:12). Jesus is falsely and naively accused of using evil powers to cast out demons, only to respond that it is by the very 'finger of God' he does so and that in this action, the kingdom of God has come upon them.
Jesus has not only come and delivered us from the domain of darkness, clearing out all that is evil within. He has disarmed the rulers and authorities, transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, filled us with his Spirit, and now dwells within those who receive him. The one 'stronger than the strong man' has come, preventing any further intrusion of evil.
May we know the triumph of Christ over Satan and all evil powers, and the fullness of life in the kingdom of his beloved Son, forgiven and set free.
