The Church at Pergamos was commended by "the One who has the sharpened two-edged sword (coming from HIs mouth" to not allow the Word of God to be compromised.
In this we begin with what the seven churches represent. They were:
1. Seven literal churches in that day. 2. Seven divisions in church history. 3. Seven different types of bodies of believers found in all times. 4. Seven ways a believer can walk with God.
I call Pergamos the infiltrated church because they allowed Satan to infiltrate the body through false teaching and a mixing of pagan and Messianic teachings. This church is also an example of the compromises the church made from the 4th-7th centuries after Constantine declared Christianity to be the "state religion".
