Washing the Disciple's Feet Because Jesus humbled Himself for us, we must humble ourselves for each other. Jesus humbly washed His disciples' feet (1-11) An acted parable of atonement (once-for-all cleansing) (1-11) He loved His own (1) He recognized His own divine authority (2-3) He showed them His coming humiliation (4-11) An acted parable of sanctification (on-going cleansing) (10) He cleansed the clean disciples' feet (10) An acted parable of distinguishing grace (10-11) He proclaimed that not all are “clean” (10-11) We disciples are to humbly wash one another's feet (12-17) Because of Jesus' example (12-16) Because He wants us to have a happy life (17) Applications Washing each other's feet means: 1.
