In this sermon, Pastor Geoff exposits Mark 2:18-22 on another account of "conflict" in Mark 2. The Jewish leaders are upset because the disciples of Jesus are NOT fasting -- like their disciples are. In Jesus' reply, we see 2 life-altering and glorious declarations. 1. Jesus' coming is CELEBRATORY (v.18-20) 2. Jesus' gospel is EXCLUSIVE (v.21-22) Jesus is the Bridegroom! His people don't fast (=as expression of legalistic works-righteousness and/or mourning/despair). Rather, when the Bridegroom is taken, then we will fast out of hunger/yearning for our Bridegroom's soon-return.
You cannot mix Jesus and His gospel with OT Judaism and law-keeping. Christ brings in the new. He didn't come to reform but to regenerate!
