Know the Wonder and Greatness of Salvation. 1 Peter 1:10-12 Salvation is one of the major themes of the Bible. In fact, the Bible is simply the story of God's work of salvation. Peter opened his epistle with a discussion about salvation. He said that salvation is a gift which comes to us through Jesus Christ. He said further that this gift of salvation is an inheritance which is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. He added that this salvation brings joys to our hearts, even during life's difficulties. In our text for this week, Peter developed further this discussion on salvation. The first thing we see is that long before this salvation through Christ was experienced, it had been predicted by the prophets. Both the sufferings and glory of Christ were predicted by the prophets. Peter said it was because of "the Spirit of Christ in them." Long before Jesus took on flesh and dwelt among us, He was already alive and at work in the world. And part of His work in this Old Testament period was revelation. It describes the wonder and greatness of salvation, the glorious truth that God saves men from death and exalts them into the glories of heaven. Salvation required special men, special prophets, to share the message v.10. Salvation was to be the personal experience of God's grace v.10. Salvation was a mystery v.11. Salvation was to be wrought by the sufferings and glory of the Messiah v.11. Salvation was destined for future believers v.12.Salvation is now proclaimed in the gospel v.12.Salvation is so glorious that it arouses the angels to understand and look into it v.12. The work of salvation made available through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
