Isaiah the prophet in chapter 55 was speaking of his people of Israel, a nation taken over by an evil empire due to Israel's rebellion against God. The water resources for Israel now were gone for them. They were subject to the nation that defeated them., They needed water to sustain life, but their water resources were no longer their own. They were no longer available. Israel could only secure water at a considerable cost. It was no longer free or affordable. Isaiah the prophet used the dilemma of Israel to talk about real spiritual thirst, the thirst underneath all thirst, the thirst that comes from deep inside our spiritual being. Isaiah gave an amazing spiritual invitation that is still available today. If we as well wish to drink everlasting water, the water of life, we must learn three lessons:
