A miraculous catch of fish – boats overflowing to the point of sinking – simply because Christ spoke the word and a reluctant Peter obeyed. The disciples needed a graphic illustration from the beginning of their ministry with Jesus that it would not be their cleverness or life experience or piety that would make such an impact on others. It would be because the Lord has done it. Just as He was able to fill their boats to overflowing with a catch of fish so He could enable ordinary, uneducated men to proclaim a gospel that would be abundantly effective in bringing people into the Kingdom. The Lord may lead us in ways that seem illogical or unreasonable – we may feel out of our comfort zone but we should not be surprised that sooner or later He will surprise us with the joy of seeing many others ‘caught' by the grace of God.
