This week we are in part 3 of a 4 part series on the mission of the church.
Our mission is to build a community of gospel-centered people (disciples) as we:
1. Worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24; Acts 2:42).
2. Serve one another by exercising our spiritual gifts (I Cor. 12:4-6; Eph. 4:11-16).
3. Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
4. Live out a biblical worldview in all spheres of life (Jer. 29:7; Mt. 5:13-16).
Some of you may wonder why proclaiming the gospel is third. While we believe evangelism is very important worship is even more important. The object of evangelism is to gather more worshipers.
Also, it is important that the local church, through which evangelism takes place, be healthy and vibrant as God adds to her number.
We will look at several passages to proclaim:
1. The call to evangelism – to go outside our comfort zone to proclaim the gospel and make disciples.
2. The motive for evangelism – first our love for God and then our love for our fellow man.
3. The message of evangelism – Who God is, man's need, Christ, and faith.
4. The method of evangelism – personal evangelism, corporate evangelism, outreach evangelism, missions, and church planting.
5. The success of evangelism – Divine sovereignly working through human instrumentality.
We are thankful to be in a church in which so many have a heart for the lost. Pray that God will make us fruitful to His glory.
