When sinners ask, “What must I do to be saved?”, the Bible answers, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” But how may a sinner know if he has believed with a saving faith? What does it mean to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ?

Great Sermon! We need more preaching like this. It troubles me, as I am sure it troubles many, that many in the pulpit today are preaching a "feel good" message, or how to get rich, instead of the truth. They never preach that the "gospel of God is the power unto salvation for everyone that believes." In other words, God is sovereign in salvation; nevertheless he is not willing that any should perish, and has provided the gospel message to draw men to repentance and then to salvation by grace through faith. Repentance is absolutely necessary for salvation; therefore the sinner must come to be convicted for his sin and led to repentance, before he or she can be saved by the grace of God. The preaching of the message of the one-time perfect substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the propitiation for sin is necessary. So, preachers should preach about the utter lost state and separation from God of sinful man and then preach Christ as the good news of salvation by His Cross! That is the higher calling when you are called to preach. Lead men to the place the Holy Spirit can convict of sin, then the necessity of repentance, then lead them to Christ! People get saved only if they come by way of the strait and narrow gate! It is God Who sovereignly calls and saves, but He uses His Word!
