Ezekiel’s allegories depicting Israel’s persistent and flagrant abandoning of their true husband in favour of alluring idols are in sharp contrast to the spin of Israel’s prophets who merely whitewash the gross failure of God’s people - totally ignoring the perilous situation they are in.
No wonder Ezekiel is given a lovely ‘rags to riches’ story that suddenly turns into a tale of appalling harlotry and debauchery. The imagery is confronting and shocking but no less than the sins that it represents. Could the church of today and we as individuals so ‘whitewash’ the true state of our hearts that we also are oblivious to the way we can so easily demean ourselves by chasing after the gods of this world and utterly forsake our one true lover?
Let's continue to pray that the Lord will speak to us through this the word He gave to Ezekiel and that we will be strengthened to hear it.
