The Magi, who may have been priests from Persia, must have had access to the Hebrew scriptures as a result of the dispersion of the Jews after the Babylonian captivity. Having studied these scriptures, the Holy Spirit convinced them that the promised Delivered had been born. They came to Jerusalem with one intent: to worship the new born king of the Jews and present him gifts worthy of a king. Their worship was a precursor of the host of Gentiles who would also join them in worshipping Jesus, the Son of God and son of Mary, the divine Messiah.
